Well, as I check the Dana’s battery this morning, I see that “hockeystick” effect on the battery meter. Now it’s dropping fast, nearly empty all of a sudden. I may get this post off, but I’ll be back to the typewriters for the two letters I got in the mail tonight. One from Constant Correspondent […]
Mail Call: Agent K Wins The Typeface Duel
A large envelope in the mail last night from Correspondent Kevin K. Inside, a letter written in a very unique script face which he is keeping me in suspense concerning the name and details, other than it is on an Underwood Typemaster. Also enclosed was an article written by Mark Schrad on the whole “SS […]
Mail Call: Rich & Mitch in the Mail!
Two letters in the mail tonight, both from the Great State of Ohio. Richard P writes of the days of the Bush Papers and being called on for his expertise on propotionally spacing typewriters, which reminded me of being visited by a couple of County detectives wanting me to invalidate Obama’s birth certificate on typographical […]
Mail Call: Die-Cut Envelopes Ahoy!
A letter in my mailbox last night from Sue M, who mentioned in a comment on last post that her strange envelope might have gotten stuck in the mail – turns out it’s just fine! I examined the envelope when I got it, the size and construction, and came to the conclusion that it had […]
Dry Spell Creativity
No mail for a few days, and I have taken the spare time to have The Brother over for a movie swap and a recording session. Weapon of Choice: 1986 Canon TypeStar 4. Also had time to re-design all of my Correspondence Episodes for new paper and window envelopes. I’m running a bit low on […]
Mail Call: A Letter From a Type Pal, and another Thriftin’ Haul
I went and hit the Deseret before the end of the day today, and on the way back, found a letter from Gunier K in the mailbox! Correspondent Gunier has had excellent response from joining Type Pals for his Type Pal needs. He’s collected a nice lil’ stack o letters so far, but soon he’ll […]
Mail Call: A Letter, A Zine & A Bit of Nice Cine…
In tonight’s mail, a letter and some photos from Mitchell F. This is an interstitial Correspondence, or at least it feels like it, because it discusses the Tape Pals 3-Way Cassette, which he will have gotten from Joe just days after he sent this letter to me. Circular patterns in the postal system, ships passing […]

Typewriter Drop Test #1: The Cursed JP4
Well, I suppose it eventually happens to some of us, and now it’s happened to me. I dropped a typewriter. ): Admittedly, it was a cursed typewriter, one that’s had just about every misfortune an electric typebar machine can have other than a busted belt since I obtained the poor thing. It did work well […]

Testing AlphaAverage Replacement Battery for Alphasmart Dana and Neo
Well, that was very quick delivery indeed! Thanks, Dave! A few days ago, I was contacted by a fellow who had built a small batch of brand new replacement rechargeable batteries for the Alphasmart Dana/Neo – offering to send a demo unit of the new battery to me for review. He had left his message […]

Mail Call: How about a ZINE with that letter?
Hey, look, I think it’s those blossoming cherry trees that people tell me about! The author’s notes, by Ivan Echevarria. Sounds like he’s got perhaps 19 still left in that box, if I got #6. Maybe you’ll get lucky too, if you are Mary’s Correspondent! An example page: Currently in the earholes:

Tape Pals Package AWAY!
I get unreasonably happy when working on a nice box to send someone, especially when I get to savor it for a couple weeks. The open box lives on the bar, and every so often I’ll make something to drop inside, building the mystery bit by bit… Currently in the earholes:

Typewriters of James Bond 007 – Goldfinger
Actually, now that I stare at it some more, I’m thinking it looks more like a 1964 Electra 110. The arrow label on the front of the keyboard, the carriage knob, the red half-space button.. yeah, that would explain why the front face looks different.

Mail Call: Envelope Full of Envelopes
It’s at times like this that I start to have a little empathy for the villains of a 1970’s Chevy Chase/Goldie Hawn movie. Ya J-Dubs feel free to stuff my security door with Watchtowers, but keep yer dirty theocracy away from the government, thank you very much. Currently in the earholes:
