Typecasts In Exile: Day 466 – Another In-Between

Today marks about a month trapped here in Cinderblock Cell #11, and with no success in home bidding, the girls have hatched a plan to lease a house in New England post haste. This is both to prevent us all from shriveling up and dying in this summer hellhole, but also to provide breathing room to do selective, smart shopping because the best buying is not done by overheated, stir-crazy brains looking to escape frankly ANYWHERE. It seems to be a good decision, as it came just after a storm rolled into town overnight and dropped a few precious raindrops that cooled our minds below the redline of desperation. Today, we’re paying for it with 80% humidity as well as the returning heat of the day, and the wall unit condenser is dripping a stream of water out the back like a Calvin sticker on a shitkicker truck peeing on whatever the shitkicker don’t like. The poor thing sounds like the thirstiest dog in the world lapping up an Olympic-sized pool without stopping all day. I’ve had to go reset it’s breaker switch twice so far today as it’s clearly sucking more than its allotted 20 amps at times. So TIME. Time and that somewhere else as far away from the DESERT as we can get is now the priority target, even if it’s just another rental. Thing is, it’ll likely be a lease, prolly one year’s worth. That’ll mean we’ll basically have to move *twice*, with a year in-between. Well, at least I’d have my TYPEWRITERS again and I’d be able to keep them with me since the move from one place in New England to somewhere else in New England is just a trip in a truck. Maybe even a pull-wagon trip – distance is a different, much smaller thing up there than it is here in the WEST. It’s a bit like Europe in that way. Perhaps the farther a place goes back in racial memory, the smaller it gets – like the objects in rear-view mirrors. In any case, I’d have my TYPEWRITERS and an address for Correspondents to mail to. Won’t that be a relief! :D The POCKET TIGERS have learned to *snuggle* in the one-room cellblock. Both of them traumatized strays adopted a decade apart, it’s taken them a couple years for them to not be standoffish and suspicious of each other all the time. The younger one even gives old Beef Supreme a friendly tonguebath almost every day. That is at least one good thing that has come of this liminal confinement. The old fellah hasn’t had such a soft and shiny coat in many years.

  1. Hang in there big guy, an opportunity will present itself when you least expect it… :)

  2. You’ll find a nice place sooner or later. Hopefully sooner so you need not rent.

I’ve found regional moves easier than interstate moves. I would rent whatever size truck I could rent and move bit by bit over a few days. Much better than one big move (unless the movers are very good and do all the work, most only live up to their name: mover moving items from truck to a pile in the new place)

  3. Oof, this sounds hard. Hope a better situation comes your way pronto!
