  1. I like: 1) the sleek design, and 2) the crisp clarity of the font (which I’d attribute to Japanese design). This is a great little typewriter that will serve you well and may be light enough for easy portability as well.

  2. Congratulations! Fine looking typewriter. I don’t have that model, but I enjoy my 44oT.

Gotta love the Fra-Gee-Lay and the “You’ll shoot your eye out.” Neat movie. I missed it this year.

  3. It’s a beaut!

  4. Enjoy! It is Brother central here. The spring experiment worked. The early JP-3, noted by the all metal control bits, has a different key tension. I think on the later models, they reworked the ribbon system for more return on the vibrator.

So on the later models, drop the spring rack to the underside. It is pretty easy. Pull a screw and match a nut for the thread pitch and then use a longer screw. Tip, do one side at a time and don’t let the rack rotate, otherwise the springs will flop off. When done, the springs have 2.4mm less preload.

Also, carefully, take out some tension on the shift spring. You can also lower the shift key postion with the screws on the main shaft. You will have to fiddle with the shift lock latch though.
