The front-facing stereo mics are not bad at all, and while they do pick up the sound of me fiddling with the zoom lever, it totally can’t hear the lens zooming. Canon Powershots are notorious for lens zoom noise, but this one’s silent, and I double-checked to make sure the lens noise cancellation filter was off. You would hear that as a dip in the volume. If you can live with Mini-DV resolution and aspect ratio, it seems as good as my actual Canon Mini-DV camcorders were, and way better zoom capabilities.
This is pretty much what my summer has been. There were a few weeks in July that got to what I would classify as “summer” temperatures (wooo! the NINETIES!) but, usually it’s cool, overcast or raining, or misty, or very occasionally the sun dares show his weakened face, bent to extreme angles by my Northerly latitude and he struggles to break through the canopy of trees reaching desperately for every millivolt of sunshine. I know those fellow travelers I left behind in the desert look to August as just added brutality and hope for summer to break at the end of September, and I feel sad for their withered, leathery skin and rather severe restrictions on future Colorado River water allocations. From Arrakis to Caladan my house has been re-assigned. (:
CHDK Test Long Exposure 1:30sec stopped down to f8. Getting good exposure of the evening overcast sky and excellent, sharp sunburst rays from the floodlights & starpoints on the reflections. I fiddled too much with the CHDK options and the camera decided to run an HDR bracketing script while I was doing long exposures, so I only got the two shots before the camera locked up trying to write & clean up RAW files while also converting them to DNGs. *le sigh*, got a little carried away with the menus, but at least I caught a ghost.. whoops, there it goes! Maybe I’ll try 3 minutes and some strategic flashlight painting tonight..
