Why I *Still* Make Mixtapes and A Swiss Reglette Circular Ruler Distraction

Swiss Reglette at the Crypto Museum
In other news, we’ve looked at two houses so far but neither compelled us into an offer. Disappointing, but we are at least moving forward again. While driving to look, I took the Mestastic radio node with me and picked up a small number of nodes along the way, but was never able to get close enough to get a solid traceroute to any of them. My node list in Bristol was very promising, but it seemed I had connected to a weak but busy node with a lot of Bristol traffic. Nothing live in the channels or public rooms, though. I probably need a better antenna on this thing – in areas like Bristol where LoS is pretty flat, a few db of amplification along the horizontal might get me a solid connection. Not really any point in getting one for the mountain-filled sticks where I’m normally at, though. More db ain’t gonna get signal through trees and mountains. :P

  1. That fellow in the videos goes through a lot of work, but his tape route sure looks neat.

I’ve not made a mix tape since leaving VA. Unfortunately I had to leave my Broadcast turntables in FL. Having 2 of those made DJing and mix tapes or CD or anything fun. Now all I have is 2 consumer grade Technics SL-1200s. Surprisingly they do survive radio stations. I’ve installed many.

Glad to see your having fun with Meshtastic.

I wish you all the best of success in finding a great house.

    1. Ha, just discovered MQTT. Can route radio-encrypted packets through the phone’s internet connection and the public Mestastic MQTT server. Allows direct messaging in private channels to any other similarly setup node, and devolves to LoRa when internet isn’t available. When I get it figured out I’ll start a TWDB private channel and toss the key up in a post. If you still have a mesh radio handy, and are willing to set up MQTT (or already have), we could try a cross-state chat :D

      1. I have MESH radios and they may be setup for MQTT. We used it in FL. On the flip side, I do not know where those radios would be stored. I have a full room (what I use for my desk) of still packed moving boxes. We planned on only staying in this tiny house until we found one we likde. Then the virus hit.
If I don’t find my radios, I’ll get one from the big A.

  2. I discovered that mixtape series when it first came out, waiting for each new episode to be uploaded. I found it pretty enjoyable to watch, but can understand how it might be particularly frustrating in your current situation. Hang in there.
