Picked up a set of snow boots, as it is now snowing.
Had to find some real clean/lube to fix the Vodka mistake, and looks like the only thing from the local hardware store is WD-40 Professional (not the normal “water displacement” formula). That freed up the Sterling just fine.
Hey look! An exclamation mark key instead of more fractions! :D
I cleaned & lubed the Model O, but the escapement still doesn’t trip reliably, and the actuator just doesn’t seem to get pushed far enough to trip, so I think an adjustment is in order. Need my tools for that, though.
Great finds! But I’m thinking the vodka works better on the typist than the typewriter!
I hope so – it’s terrible for typewriters! :D
Those are some sweet machines! I was laughing about the vodka. Curious about WD-40 Pro.
Nice machines! Snow and typewriters sound very cozy – cold weather hygge.
Well, I am quite Danish on my father’s side. (:
O my! Pre-forties machines scare me a little bit, but that’s a beauty. Three great scores. Enjoy!
I agree with JVC, Vodka works better in the typist.
Good to see there are still affordable typewriters in the wild. JVC recently posted he got an Olympia for $10!
Get your snow shovel ready to go with the boots. We got about 6 1/2″ already last week. It melted a day later.
Happy typewriter hunting.
Great finds and great stories! Vodka?! Well even Edison is supposed to have tried a lot of things to make a workable filament for a lightbulb—so now we know what doesn’t work in typewriter repair and maintenance. I’ll have to look for WD-40 Professional in my local store. At over 60 years of age the SCM is still typing faithfully; more and more, I’m impressed by those machines.
Be careful to avoid nearby open flames while cleaning. :D
Rather, old chap, looking forward to hearing from you when you finally disembark the ship in your new territory, what-what! Deeply appreciative of your move to climes more reminiscent of my own. Vodka is a perfectly acceptable drink if only to forestall the onset of hypothermia, but should never be wasted upon the typewriter, it may develop a dangerous taste for the stuff, to which it would then never be satisfied. Congrats on your local finds, happy you have turned the tap on again. Keep warm and huzzah!
