  1. Finally, a place to send a letter to!
Try to keep that rental clean for me; My mom works as a cleaning lady for long-term rentals like that all the time, & you wouldn’t believe the horror stories I’ve heard from her about those…

    1. You probably haven’t seen “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”, but if you have, you may get an idea of where I get my ideas on decorating rental spaces. (:

  2. I’m glad to know that things’re looking up for you and yours. I think, too, that CT will be an excellent choice. Unless, I’ve forgotten the few things I know about typewriter history, both the Royal and the Underwood hail from Hartford, and then in later years Olivetti took on the task of trying to revive Underwood’s fortunes, not to mention design sensibilities But all this you know already. I really do trust that it will all work out.

    1. Yep, I expect to make the girls drive me to all the hotspots of typewriter history. I feel like when the weather outside is delightful, they may re-catch the bug and bang the keys with me again. The town is just 7k population, so I’m hoping it will be a pocket of typewriter bargains, since it may be too small to already have someone(s) slurping up the bargain typewriters. I could become the town’s TYPEWRITER GOD in 6 months, I think. Small ponds are easy conquering!

      1. Plus, Hartford—and other CT places, too—is an easy drive to Brimfield, MA, where there is a notable and extensive flea market three times a year. The last time I was there, I purchased two machines, the oldest a 1939 Remington. The Remington was $25.00, the 50s-era Smith Corona $20.00. A friend (in his 70s) volunteered to lug these machines to my truck. This friend was finding typewriters for me, while I was finding tools for him. While there weren’t typewriters in every booth, there were enough to make the day as interesting as it was worthwhile.

        1. yeh, I imagine the NorthEast is quite different timespacially than what I’ve been used to growing up in the SouthWest. I’ve been there once – Girl 2 took me up there to meet her family back in the Oughties and I was astonished at how low the density of humanity in so many places were within like half an hour from incredible densities of humans. So much density. We were touring in a Mazda Spyder convertible and I went from the incredible calm of the Connecticut woodlands to the catatonia-inducing stink and cacophony of the GW Bridge in less than an hour. I have been in New York City, but I can’t say I have actually *seen* NYC.

  3. Congratulations! Should be much more relaxing to house hunt from a remote headquarters. BTW 800 SQ ft can be a great house. I had an 880 SQ FT when I lived in VA and really enjoyed it. The,n it was located in the moonshine capital of the world (the good stuff is really smooooooth)

    1. Yuh, being able to unpack my STUFF will do wonders for my mental state. I need the comfort of some stability and my MACHINES! Probability indicates one room to just stack the POD boxes into for the half-year. It may be a close call space-wise, but I was able to get everything we owned into an 8×16 POD (tho the truck crushed the driveway when they picked it up- I packed a lot of books in there. That cost me a few bills to get fixed), so I hope I can avoid another 6 months of storage fees. :D

  4. Oh, this is WONDERFUL news! And, is it just me or did the “r” in “Skyriter” land nearly dead center on the reserved symbol of the Burger King logo? That must be a sign of GREAT FORTUNE!

    1. I wondered if anyone would catch that :D

  5. I’m really glad that your plans are firming up. Just in time for the autumn colors of the Northeast. I owe you a letter and will pay my correspondence debt once you have a mailing address.

    1. Ooh, yay! Yuh, the girls are practically insane about the colors on the trees and keep sending me photographs that deeply appeal to my Autumn soul. I mean, look at the colors I choose for my blog! Expect to see me in lots of Mustard and Burnt Sienna turtleneck Henleys. Also black and brown leather. All the clothes I’ve kept for thirty years waiting for an environment cold enough to survive wearing them. Fur collars! thick Thinsulate zip-ins, the plaid wool zip-ins for my London Fog trenchcoat! You gonna see some other style than Aloha shirts outta me soonlike. :D
