Mail Call: The Simulation Stabilizes a Bit

“Four Eyes” by Correspondent GJK. I was only saddled with glasses after 40, and then only for close-up work, so my experience with them is mostly irritation at not having them when I need them. I suppose it’s quite different when you need them at a much younger age. Just another annoying variable in that whole forming your identity for adulthood phase. One can feel the ennui ooze from the artwork… Perhaps GK should not be so quick to dismiss the flat cap & glasses look. I think it’s pretty swank! :D Currently in the eyeholes:

  1. Glad to hear my letter made it OK!
First time I’ve ever learned a new word from one of your blog posts: “Ennui” – Sums up how I feel perfectly! Dissatisfaction & boredom, that is.
The main reason I bought that flatcap is because it’s like the more refined & elegant version of the baseball cap. Pairs with most any outfit, from slacks & bobby socks with a tee-shirt, to a full-blown suit & tie; It pairing with my glasses was just a (very much apreceated) accident! Even if I may hate how I look in them, I’ll at least take solace knowing the clothes I’m wearing pair with them, even if I don’t.

  2. So, the “More Like This” recommendations are rather…interesting…. Never thought I’d see “Blade Runner” mentioned along with “High Road…”

And I was just thinking about “Firefox” the other day. Haven’t seen that one in decades…. Weirdly, the scene that always comes to mind is the one of Eastwood’s character getting in the definite wrong line trying to get out of that subway station, and the bureaucratically terrifying mustachioed KGB officer who detains him….

(And no, I am NOT going to sit here and repeat the line, “Think in Russian!” Not going to do it…)

    1. Ha! Yeah – I picked up that DVD at a thrift awhile ago. Saw “Firefox” in the theater but haven’t revisited it yet, but I remember that line. I remember it being very stressful to watch, too.
