Weapon of Choice: 1962 Groma Kolibri N #N43143 Currently in the eyeholes: It’s sort of a “Thousand and One Arabian Nights” kind of story in a way, where a desperate, suicidal paralyzed stunt man befriends an 8-year old immigrant fruit picker in the hospital which they are recuperating from falls in around the 1920’s. The stunt man weaves a tale for the little girl to incentivize her to steal a bottle of morphine so he can kill himself. Her motivation is to get the entire story told. We see the simple, heroic fairy tale he weaves from the point of view of the imagination of the little girl, who is much more perceptive than he expects. A young Lee Pace has great chemistry with the little girl who, if she isn’t actually a barely-literate immigrant fruit-picker, is certainly one of the best child actors I’ve seen. Beautifully shot with many unexpected turns, certainly worth that second viewing.
Two typewriter sightings in “The Fall”, just in passing. One Oliver! And an early Royal Standard. Both period-appropriate.
Love me some dark brown ink! One of my go-to fountain pen ink colors. In fact, I currently have a pen inked up with Diamine “Deep Dark Brown”. And that green ribbon. Wow!
